None of Cal Ripken, Jr.’s prodigious baseball accomplishments — 431 home runs, 19 All-Star selections, playing every Orioles game for 16 straight seasons, a plaque at Cooperstown — necessarily mean he can offer non-baseball advice. Will your life be improved by reading his new book, Get in the Game, or hearing Ripken talk about his “8 Elements of Perseverance” at the Central Branch of the St. Louis Public Library (1301 Olive Street; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) at 7 p.m. tonight? Well, success does breed success. And at the very least, you can be sure the guy will show up. Admission is free, and Ripken will only sign books that are purchased from Left Bank Books; no other memorabilia will be signed.
